“Fizeste-nos, Senhor, para vós,
e o nosso coração anda inquieto
enquanto não descansar em vós.”
(Santo Agostinho)

“You have formed us for Yourself,
and our hearts are restless
till they find rest in You
.”
(Saint Augustine)

The Discalced Augustinians, a Religious group of men established in Italy, arrived in Brazil in 1948. They created several religious communities in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Paraná. In 1999, these Discalced Augustinians arrived in Ourinhos and began the construction of the Seminário Santo Tomás de Vilanova. The goal of the school was to offer a program in the study of philosophy for Augustinian seminarians who were preparing for religious life and for the Catholic priesthood.

During the Third Provincial Chapter of the Order which was held in Ourinhos in 2015, the Discalced Augustinians decided to conclude the course of study in philosophy and transfer the seminarians to their Seminário Santa Rita dos Impossíveis in the city of Rio de Janeiro. There was then a proposal to close the Seminário Santo Tomás de Vilanova.

After thoughtful consideration, the leadership of the Order analyzed a proposal to transform the seminary building into a school. The proposal was approved by all and the plans for the creation of the Colégio Santo Agostinho started immediately. The mission of this religious school was to be designed and implemented and administered by the Brazilian Province of the Discalced Augustinians.

A committed group of lay Christians became part of the project. The preparatory meetings for the creation of the Colégio Santo Agostinho began in April 2016. The Colégio Santo Agostinho would have the following characteristics: it would be a religious/Catholic school with the presence of the Discalced Augustinians in administration and activities, it would offer a bilingual education program, it would have an excellent platform for teaching, and be a place for part time students.

On December 15th, 2017, the Colégio Santo Agostinho was established with the blessing and approval of both the ecclesiastical and and civil authorities. On February 3th, 2018, there will be an ORIENTATION MEETING for all parents and students concerning the mission and pedagogical activities of the of the Colégio Santo Agostinho, with the first students group.
